James E. "Mac" McQuiston, 84, of New Castle, passed away the morning of December 24, 2021, at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born February 24, 1937, in New Castle, he was the son of Howard and Mildred (Ruby) McQuiston. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Nancy (McKibben) McQuiston, whom he married September 8, 1956. James was a graduate of New Castle High School where he played in the band. He served his country in the US Army, 46th Infantry, 3rd Armored Division, while stationed in Germany. Mr. McQuiston served as the president of the OCAW Union with American Cyanamid and also the treasurer of the credit union. He then owned his own company, Overhead Garage Doors until gaining employment with Aerotech Mechanical Contractors until his retirement. He also was a deputy with the PA Game Commission. James was very active with the Masons and served as Past Master of Lodge 243, Free and Accepted Masons where he was Past Thrice Potent Master. He held memberships in the New Castle Scottish Rite, Syria Shrine, and Past Grand Tall Forest, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest No. 144. He was a life member of Croton United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of various committees. Singing was one of his loves, often singing in various duets, trios, quartets and choirs, including performing in the Messiah. His greatest love was for his wife and family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Carol (Ralph) Delio, Millie (Merle) Glass and Dianna (Todd) Esposito, all of New Castle, and Kathy Oxley of Rayland, Ohio; one sister, Patricia (Richard) Diana of Indiana; seven grandchildren, Rashelle (Scott) Maderitz, Brock (Meghan) Glass, Ralph "RJ" Delio, Stephanie (Tim) Pander, Danielle (Jeff) Brown, Matthew Frakes (fiance' Makenna Carle), and Vince Esposito; and 6 great-grandchildren, Aria, Brooke, Silas, Sawyer, Matteo and Margo. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles William McQuiston; one sister, Ruby Joanne Zurasky; and a son-in-law, Jeff Oxley. A Celebration of Life service will be announced by the family to take place at Grace United Methodist Ministry on Croton Avenue in the near future. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
