Obituary

Longtime New Castle dentist, Dr. James Recitous Paige, 83, of Neshannock Township, New Castle, passed away the afternoon of May 23, 2014 at Jameson Hospital.Born January 27, 1931 in Windsor, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Abie Paige and Annie Ward McCray.Surviving at home is his wife of 55 years, Dr. Mabel Roberta Paige, whom he married February 15, 1959.He was a 1948 graduate of W.S. Ethridge High School in Windsor, NC, graduating second in his class. He then graduated from North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science Degree with honors and in 1954 with a Master of Science Degree with honors. Dr. Paige attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 1961 with honors and has been a doctor of dental surgery since 1961 with an established practice in the New Castle area.He was a veteran of the US Army.Dr. Paige was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, Ninth District Dental Society of the ADA, Pierre Fauchard Academy, and Phi Sigma Society.He was a privileged member of the Presidential Who's Who, the Strathmore's Who's Who Worldwide, the America's Top Dentist and he and his wife were Golden Heritage Members of the NAACP.Among his many interests were hunting, gardening and landscaping. He enjoyed flying as a private pilot and was a culinary chef.Dr. Paige was a member of Second Baptist Church.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James R. Paige, Jr. and Floretta Perkins Paige of Pittsburgh.He was preceded in passing by his parents.Visitation will take place on Friday, May 30, 2014, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, and on Saturday, May 31, 2014, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 537 Bell Avenue, New Castle.A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014, immediately following visitation at 2:00 p.m. at the church and will be officiated by Rev. Norman Hunt.
