James R. Emery, 86, of 915 Old Youngstown Road, New Castle, passed away the morning of September 17, 2012 at his son's residence in Edinburg.Born September 15, 1926, in New Castle, he was a son of Walter and Mary Galbreath Emery. He married Doris Daugherty on April 23, 1949. She preceded him in death on November 3, 2008.He was a 1944 graduate of Union High School.Jim was employed for 38 years with Youngstown Sheet and Tube, where he retired from in 1983. He also owned and operated Emery's Trailer Park.He was a 50 year member of the 32nd Degree Masons with the New Castle Masonic Lodge. He also served coffee for the Wimodausis.He enjoyed gardening, flowers, and travel.Jim loved spending time with his grandchildren and was proud of each one of them for receiving a college education.He was a former member of Second Presbyterian Church where he was active with the youth program. He later attended New Bedford Presbyterian Church.Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Cathy and Rev. Douglas Fombelle of Philadelphia and Cindy and J.T. Thompson of Erie; one son and his wife, James D. and Terri Emery of Edinburg; six grandchildren, Paul (Gina) Fombelle, Tara (Zac) Cline, Gregory Fombelle, Jaime (Ben) Petro, Allison Thompson and Jake Emery; and one great-grandchild, Alivia Emery Evanoff.In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Emery and two sisters, Ruth Nicholson and Helen Erwin.Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 21, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Doug Runyan and The Rev. Douglas Fombelle will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, 1211 Wilmington Avenue, New Castle, PA 16105.
