James G. Raeburn, 75, also known as "the Mayor of Hillcrest" passed away August 3, 2010 at the UPMC Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.Jimmy was born February 19, 1935, the son of James and Elizabeth Raeburn. He was a 1953 New Castle Senior High School graduate retiring from the Lawrence County Government Center in 1977. Those who have had the pleasure of knowing "Jimmy" understand the monumental void that will be felt in his absence, not only by his family, but in his community as well. He firmly believed that every person must have a deep commitment to the community in which he belonged, a principle Jimmy highly valued. He could be found most election nights tallying the votes in Lawrence County. Jimmy was a fun loving man who not only loved a great party but also threw quite a few in his prime.He often said that his only fear was the he did not accomplish enough in his life. If you ask his grandchildren, they would tell you, that Jimmy's greatest accomplishment was the love and devotion he had for his family. He will be fondly remembered as a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend.Jimmy is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Jean Monsey; sisters, Rachel Hershman, Patsy Russian, and Sandra (Ken) McClymonds; his children, Cheryl (Frank) Dodd and Randall Raeburn; his grandchildren, Franklin and Molly Dodd, Randi Preston and Bailey Raeburn; and sister-in-law Diana (William) Lower.His son Scott Raeburn preceded him in death.A private memorial service will be held in Jimmy's honor at a later date.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent directly to the family.Arrangements are being handled by the R.
