Obituary

James A. (Jim) Robinson, 93, of New Castle, passed away the morning of Thursday, December 29th at his residence.He was born in New Castle to John and Ida Mae Shaffer Robinson on August 13, 1918. He had been married to the former Helen E. Stillwagon for 70 years. They married on September 3, 1941. She survives.James served his nation in the Navy during World War II and helped to develop radar technology. He attended Eastbrook High School and enjoyed attending his 75th class reunion. He retired from Westinghouse Electric in Sharon after 45 years of service as an electric engineer. Jim enjoyed repairing radios, gardening and was well known as a local wedding photographer.He was a lifetime member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as a past deacon, elder and Sunday School teacher. Jim was also a member and past Master of the Mahoning / New Castle Masonic Lodge. He received a Meritorious Service Award in 1986 and was very active in many other areas in the Valley of New Castle as well.Jim is survived by his wife; three daughters and one son-in-law; Carol Robinson, of Lost Creek, West Virginia, Joan Robinson, of New Castle, and Jan and Morgan Denson, of Bethel Park; one son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Rose Ann Robinson, of New Castle; three brothers; Alan Robinson of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Clair and Ralph Robinson, both of New Castle; two sisters, Martha Shannon and Nancy Shively, both of New Castle; five grandchildren, Becky (Wayne) Hoholski, Brian (Carrie) Robinson, John Robinson, Corey Denson and Sabrina Denson; and three great-grandchildren; Katie and Kendra Robinson and Brandon Hoholski.In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Violet Alborn.Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Wilmington Road. A masonic service will be held at 8:00pm at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held Tuesday, January 3, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. til the time of the service at the Northminster Presbyterian Church, Wilmington Road, New Castle.A service will be held Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the Northminster Presbyterian Church, Wilmington Road, New Castle, conducted by the Rev. Andrew Jillson. Entombment will be at Graceland Cemetery Mausoleum.
