James E. Stephenson, 83 of New Castle passed away on December 19, 2018 at UPMC Passavant Hospital. Born on May 7, 1935 in New Castle, he was the son of Christopher and Anna Leyshon Stephenson. He married Betty Hoover Stephenson on June 14, 1958 whom survives at home. He was a member of Epworth Methodist Church. James was employed as a violinist by Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for 13 years and Houston Symphony Orchestra for 27 years. He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed at West Point Military Academy where he was affiliated with the band. He enjoyed teaching violin and attending antique car shows. Along with his wife, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ellen A. Lockhart and Alice Hoover. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 23 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., New Castle, PA.
