James R. Stunkard, age 87, of Neshannock Township, passed away the afternoon of October 17, 2016 at Jameson Care Center.
Born July 14, 1929 in New Castle, he was a son of Hugh Boyd Stunkard and Emily L. McConnell Stunkard.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Nancy Walters Stunkard, whom he married on January 19, 1953.
An Eastbrook High School graduate, Jim served his country as a PFC in the U.S. Army from December, 1948-December, 1951.
He was employed with Penn Power Company as a lineman-foreman for 40 years until his retirement in 1991.
Jim was an avid golfer and member of the Penn Power Golf League. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He attended Calvary Independent Church.
In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law; Jamie Lucille and David Hoon of Missouri City, Texas, and Kathy J. and Jeff Foreman of New Castle; one brother, William Stunkard of New Castle; four grandchildren, Chad (Tami) Weingartner, Andy (Brandy) Weingartner, Jon Hoon and Blaine Hoon; and three great-grandchildren, Tylor Weingartner, Emily Weingartner and Nicole Weingartner.
He was preceded by his parents; one daughter, Betsy Ann Cooper; and one brother, Robert Stunkard.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform military rites at 3:00 at the onset of visitation.
A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Chuck Fombelle officiating.
Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
