Obituary

Janet Taylor Burkholder, 71, of 2206 N. Mercer St., passed away at her residence the afternoon of April 14, 2010.Born April 19, 1938, in New Castle, she was the daughter of David J. and Ruth Brown Taylor.Janet married James R. Burkholder on Dec. 30, 1954, and he survives. She was a New Castle High School graduate. Janet was employed for 24 years at First Federal Savings & Loan, now First Merit, as a receptionist and switchboard operator. She was a volunteer in the hostess shop and the boutique at Jameson Hospital for the Junior Guild. Her hobbies included ceramic painting and growing flowers in her back yard. She was a member of the Junior Guild of Jameson Hospital, United Methodist Women's Society, a former board member of the Almira Home for six years, served on the YM-YWCA board, a member of the Lawrence County St. David's Day Society for Welsh descendants and the Red Hat Society - Ladies with a Hattitude. She loved life to the fullest and enjoyed people. Janet's family was her top priority in life, and it was also her greatest accomplishment. Janet was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church.In addition to her husband, Jim, Janet is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Jim Findlay of Munhall, Pa.; two sons and daughters-in-law, J. Lynn and Patricia Burkholder of Corona, Calif;, and Scott D. and Jo Burkholder of Cranberry Township, Pa; and five grandchildren, Kaitlynn Findlay and Kelli Findlay, both of Munhall, Krystal Burkholder of Cranberry Township, and Nichole Towns, and Melissa Towns, both of Corona, Calif.She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, David R. Taylor.Visitation is 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 18, 2010, and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2010 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2010, at the funeral home. The Rev. John Yergan will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.In lieu of flowers and throws, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Lawrence/Mercer Unit, 3208B Wilmington Road, New Castle, 16105, Jameson Junior Guild Memorial Fund, 1211 Wilmington Ave., New Castle 16105, Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, 1211 Wilmington Ave., New Castle 16101, or the charity of your choice.
