Janet L. Forkey, 93, of New Castle, passed away the morning of June 1st, at Life Lawrence County.

She was born on August 15,1930 to the late Wilbur and Clara (Zuber) Tanner. She married Carl R. Forkey, Sr. on June 6, 1952. He preceded her in passing on June 11, 1997.

Janet was a switchboard operator for St. Francis Hospital before she retired. She enjoyed cooking and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. In her early years, Janet served on Shenango's PTA and was involved in many social and prayer groups. She hosted family functions and reunions at their home. Janet was known for her canning, gardening and delicious cooking. Mrs. Forkey was a former member of Neshannock United Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, a former member of Independent Methodist Church, where she devotedly served both churches, and a current member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church.

Janet is survived by her one son, Carl R. (Barbara) Forkey, Jr., two daughters, Susan (Helmut) Kraus and Cathy Beshero, all of New Castle; 5 grandchildren; Andrew, Zachary and Nathan Kraus, Diane Forkey, David Beshero and 8 great grandchildren, Maddix, Marcus, Maysn, Olive, Alma and Nixon.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Forkey was preceded in passing by one daughter and son, Diane and Tommy Forkey and one sister, Catherine Tangeman.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-6 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd. A funeral service will be held immediately following at 6:00 PM. Pastor Steve Plyler will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
