In the pre-dawn hours of the beautiful white Christmas morning of Friday, December 25, 2020, God sent his angels to wrap our Janet in their wings and carry her to heaven from Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh following a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He has promised us that her pain and suffering are now lifted from her. We are left with an immense void in our lives and hearts. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Janet was born on July 3, 1948 in Erie, PA. She was 72 years old. She lived in California for a brief time and then moved to New Castle, PA. She graduated from Union High School and went on to receive a degree from the Pittsburgh Art Institute. She married the love of her life, Dale Harcar, on October 17, 1970. They resided in Sharon, PA, Sharpsville, PA and most recently West Middlesex, PA. They enjoyed traveling together, from several trips to Disney World to extended vacations at the beach where she would sit and admire the waves and sunrises with a nice warm cup of tea. Janet was an artist in many mediums. She was a quilter extraordinaire. Her quilts, hand-made with love, will keep her loved ones warm for generations to come. She was a seamstress above all others. Everyone treasures all of the items sewn by her hand. She created so many priceless garments from baptism gowns to beautiful dresses, including her own wedding dress, to hunting coats and boat accessories. She built and re-conditioned the most beautiful porcelain dolls and also enjoyed hand painting ceramics. Janet saw art in all of nature. The flower gardens and special places she created in her yard were beyond compare. She was gentle of spirit and a compassionate, loving cornerstone to her family. Her cooking was surpassed by no one. Her first and foremost passion was spending time with her family and doing everything in her power to provide encouragement, patience, and steadfast love to them all. Her children and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her arms were always open for a hug and she always had home-made cookies in the cookie jar to help soften life's little ups and downs. She was her husband's first mate on their boat and enjoyed their sunset cruises. She would enjoy a good novel on the boat while Dale spent the afternoons fishing. She was a member of the "Cool Pool" girls in Hermitage, PA and a long-time attendee of the Celebrity Series, where she was a season ticket holder. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kyle Booth and Elva Peters. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty years, Dale Andrew Harcar, her son Michael Andrew Harcar, his wife Jessica and their two children, Elizabeth and Andrew of Cornelius, North Carolina and her son Brian Dale Harcar, his wife Veronica and their two children, Morrison and Sebastien of West Middlesex, PA. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Mike Godfrey of Shelby, North Carolina. She will be greatly missed by her many in-laws, who loved her dearly and all of her nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own children. The funeral arrangements will be handled by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home on Wilmington Road in New Castle. The service will be private and will be scheduled at a later date. She will be laid to rest in Oak Park Cemetery. To express condolences, her family requests that, in lieu of flowers, you select a place in your own garden and plant something special in Janet's memory. I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me." Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you . Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest. Remembering all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small.
