Janet Daugherty Orga, age 65, of New Castle, died on the 2nd of August in Montana. Her death came unexpectedly while she was traveling and enjoying her recent retirement.
Janet was born on September 20th, 1952 to Eileen McFate Daugherty and Kenneth Daugherty.
She attended Mohawk Junior/Senior High School in Bessemer, Pennsylvania, Class of 1970. Then she went on to higher her education at Slippery Rock University in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1974.
She married Tony Orga in 1982. Their marriage lasted until his death in 2010.
Janet's primary passions were quilting and crafting. She was always productive and on the hunt for the next project, even attending conventions with other quilters. Her family members received beautiful quilts as gifts on special occasions such as graduations and weddings.
She was also a proud Pittsburgh Steelers fan, tuning in to support the team all season long.
Janet was a lifelong member of Mount Jackson Presbyterian Church. In addition to attending, she was an active participant in the efforts to better the church.
Until her retirement in early 2018, Janet was employed by Treloar and Heisel.
Janet is survived by her sister Lois (John) Shenk and brother Ken (Laurie) Daugherty. She is also survived by Lois' three sons Zack (Megan), Tyler (Amy), and Ryan (Jen) Shenk and Ken's three daughters, Emily, Hannah, and Kelin Daugherty along with six grand nieces and grand nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, August 10th, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, at R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be Saturday, August 11th, at 1:00 PM at Mt. Jackson U.P. Church, 129 Mt. Air Road, New Castle, Pa. 16102, with the Rev. Don Aull officiating.
Interment will be at Mt. Jackson Cemetery.
