Jean Day, 96, of Shenango Township passed away the morning on June 19, 2018 at UPMC Jameson Care Center. Born on August 14, 1921 in Slippery Rock Township, she was the daughter of Charles and Eva Forbes Mershimer. She married Robert L Day on July 26, 1948 whom preceded her in death on October 30, 1996. She was a graduate of Princeton High School and St. Francis School of Nursing in New Castle. She worked as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital until she started her family. Mrs. Day was a lifelong member of Princeton Memorial Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed quilting and bible studies. She is survived by two daughters, Ellen (John) Prosser of Youngstown, Ohio and Karen (Tim) Crawford of Bakersfield, California; two sons, John Day of Youngstown, Ohio and David Day of New Castle, PA; two sisters, Doris Turner of Florida and Eleanor Judge of New Castle, PA; two brothers, John Mershimer of New Castle and Richard Mershimer of Sharon, PA; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Mershimer; and four sisters, Helen Ayres, Edna Biddle, Edith Fanning, and Lois Mershimer. The family would like to give a special thank you to UPMC Jameson Care Center & UPMC Hospice, as well as Dr. Stephen Gabriel. Also for their love, care and support of Jean her siblings Eleanor, Doris, John, and Richard. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. Funeral services will immediately follow visitation at 7:00 PM with Pastor Randy Stringer officiating.
