Obituary

JEAN M. LEHMAN

"Father, we are so grateful for this amazing lady."

Jean Marie Lehman, 89, a lifetime resident of New Castle, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024 surrounded at home by her loving family.

Born on November 11, 1934, Jean was the oldest of Adam Presnar's and Sophie Swatkiewiecz Presnar's three children. She attended New Castle High School and graduated from Jameson School of Nursing in 1956. She served as a Registered Nurse in the maternity and OB/GYN departments of Jameson Memorial Hospital, delivering and caring for countless newborns over her 40-year career. In 1996, she retired from the calling she dearly loved.

Jean was a devoted wife to her husband of 62 years, Charles R. Lehman. They were married in 1958 in Northminster United Presbyterian Church where she was a lifelong member, contributing her time and talents in an extraordinary number of ways. She was a former Deacon, a longtime Elder; regularly attended Sunday School Class, Wonderful Wednesdays, and the Presbyterian Women events; and was a dedicated member of the Nut Roll Making Crew.

In addition to their home in New Castle, Jean and Chuck enjoyed 20 years living in the Villages of Florida during the winter months, where they spent many fun-filled days making memories with neighbors and friends.

Jean was a proud and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, with a passion for cooking and baking, especially special birthday cakes for her grandchildren. She also found great pleasure crocheting and making personalized keepsake blankets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jean was an avid reader, and meticulously planted and enjoyed caring for her flower gardens and plantings each year. Her greatest passion was giving selflessly of herself to others, in fact to all who crossed her path and needed a warm smile, an encouraging word, or a helping hand. Her love for her family, friends and neighbors was immeasurable and in return she was deeply loved by so many.

She is survived by son David Charles Lehman of Dormont, PA and daughter Denise Lehman Galasso and her husband Martin of New Canaan, CT, 10 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, an uncle and three sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles R. Lehman, her son Donald P. Lehman, her parents, and her brothers Eugene R. "Sonny" Presnar and Thomas R. Presnar.
