Jean C. Mathewson, age 96, of New Castle, PA, passed away the morning of Feb. 26, 2026, at We Care Jameson Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born Dec. 22, 1929, in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Florah Louisa (Steglich) Cripps.

She was married to William MacFarlane Mathewson II, who preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 2013.

Jean was the proud owner and operator of a guest house, located in Ocean City, New Jersey, called 'Dun Lookin'. She enjoyed getting to know guests who rented the home, for their family vacations, making it a memorable experience for all. She loved playing cards, especially Bridge, as she was a self-proclaimed expert, bowling, cooking, and biking. Jean loved going to yard sales and was a member of the 'Questers Club'. She was of the Christian faith and attended First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, Cathy (Bob) Williamson of New Castle, PA, Karen Lee (Ed) Oblen of Somers Point, NJ, William 'Bill' MacFarlane Mathewson III, of Absecon, NJ; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Hudson, and a brother, Richard 'Dick' Cripps.

In keeping with her wishes there will be no visitation or services.
