Jean M. "Ree" McEwen, 88, of Shenango Road, passed away the morning of August 19, 2015 at Jameson Hospital. Born February 23, 1927 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Alfred Domer Black and Lula Mae Ward Black. She was preceded in death on January 4, 2012 by her husband of 61 years, Harry W. McEwen, whom she married July 29, 1950. A graduate of New Castle High School, Jean was employed in the office of Johnson Bronze Company, and then was a homemaker to her husband and two sons. She attended Arlington Avenue Free Methodist Church and was a former Cub Scout leader. Among her many interests, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, bowling and woodworking. Jean was a lover of all animals. She is survived by two sons, Gordon McEwen of Slippery Rock, and Brad McEwen of New Wilmington; two brothers, Gerald (Geraldine) Black of New Castle and Donald Black of Denver, CO; two sisters, Roberta (Merle) Brooks and Janet (Walter) Smoot of New Castle; three sisters-in-law, Joan Black, June Black and Carol Black all of New Castle; and one brother-in-law, Donald Brooks of New Castle. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three daughters-in-law, Debra Ann Bakewell McEwen, Barbara L. McCormick McEwen and Patrice E. Stowe McEwen; five brothers, Alfred "Bud" Black, Merle (Shirley) Black, Walter Black, Gaylord Black and Melvin (June) Black; and one sister, Doris Brooks. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Marsha Parrish officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
