Jean Yoho Spears, 96, of Castlewood, PA, passed away on May 22, 2023, at her residence with her family by her side. Born November 3, 1926, in Energy, PA, to John and Catharine Irene (Houk) Yoho. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She married the love her life, Lawrence Emerson Spears, on February 14, 1948, who passed away on July 27, 1968.

She is survived by her children, Janice Spears Hallmark (Mike), John (Donna) and James (Linda). She is also survived by her grandson, Kevin Montgomery (Kristin) and their family, Kody, Kooper and Kelsey. Jean is also survived by her sisters, Sally Swaney and Susan Colella.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, child Lawrence (Ricky) Spears, her father and mother, brothers Neil, John and Ray Yoho and sister LeeAnn Roth.

Jean started her working career after high school in 1944 at the Bell Telephone Company. In 1977 she received a bs degree in library science and elementary education. She worked as a librarian before founding, with her daughter, The J & J Spears Employment Agency in New Castle.

Barbershop harmony was a love Jean picked up with Larry and she sang bass with two quartets and with the New Castle Chapter of Sweet Adelines where she was awarded Sweet Adeline of the Year. She also sang with the Beaver Valley Chapter of Sweet Adelines where she competed internationally.

Jean was an accomplished seamstress and made many of the Sweet Adeline gowns worn in competition. She also made several wedding gowns including her own, Leann, Sally and her daughters. Jean kept herself busy with sewing, crocheting, knitting, needle point, jigsaw puzzles, and her famous homemade "Jammin' Jeans", jams and Grape butter.

Republican politics was another passion for Jean as she was an early listener of Rush Limbaugh and rarely missed his show. Jean and Larry attended the Eisenhower inauguration and she heartily supported Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump.

Golf was a hobby she loved and enjoyed with her family. She was most proud of the hole in one she achieved at Eastland Green, Clarksville, TN when she was 74.

Following her wishes there will be no visitation, A service will be held on Thursday, May 25, at 4:00 pm at the Castlewood Christian Missionary Alliance Church, 660 Harmony Baptist Road, New Castle, PA 16101 the Reverend James O'Hara officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to The Oak Park Cemetery
