Jean M. Stewart, 74, of New Castle, passed away at home with her children by her side the afternoon of November 10, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born April 9, 1941 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Lester Dicks and Norma Patterson Dicks Howard. She was preceded in death on January 31, 2009 by her husband of 51 years, Samuel E. Stewart, whom she married April 12, 1957.
Jean attended Laurel High School and was employed with West Penn Plastics and Adams Manufacturing. On her weekends, she cleaned the company offices of Young Galvanizing.
She enjoyed baking, trips to the Casino, and loved her garden. She often enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Cindy L. (Michael) Baughman and Peggy S. (Rick) Cox of New Castle; one son Samuel E. Stewart Jr. and his fiancee' Tammy of New Castle; three brothers, Raymond, William and Robert Dicks all of New Castle; one sister, Mildred Emery of New Castle; five grandchildren, Harold (Melissa), Lucas (Heather), Samuel (Maranda), Tiffany, and Bobbi Jo; and eight great grandchildren, David, Leland, Paxton, Eva, Wyatt, Tyler, Dylan, and Kayla.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert Stewart; three grandsons, Charlie Stewart, Scott Baughman, and an infant grandson; one great-grandson, Dylan Stewart; and one sister, Opal Stitt.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00-12:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral will take place immediately following visitation Friday at 12:00 noon at the funeral home with Rev. John Yergan officiating.
Burial will be in Savannah Cemetery.
