Jeanne Catherine (nee McCarty) Hanlon, 89, of Arlington, Virginia, formerly of 2906 Spring Garden Avenue, New Castle, passed away August 28, 2010 in Virginia Hospital Center 4.Born November 29, 1920 in Fargo, North Dakota, she was a daughter of Dan Henry and Elna Hazel Thompson McCarty. She married Bernard J. Hanlon on August 7, 1942. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1986.Jeanne was employed by Jameson Memorial Hospital where she was a pharmacy technician.After her retirement, she continued volunteer work with Jameson. She loved birds and gardening. Among her many interests were sewing and stitchery of any kind. She was a member of St. Camillus Church.Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia H. and David Bristol of Arlington, VA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bernard P. and Mary Alice Hanlon of Hanover, PA and Brian F. and Brenda Hanlon of Clinton, IL; four grandchildren, Kelly Hanlon Williamson and her husband James, Brian Hanlon and his wife, Brittany, Jamie Hanlon and Bernard Hanlon; two great grandchildren, Cale Andrew Hanlon and Hannah Rose Williamson.In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by one son, Michael J. Hanlon who passed away September 12, 2001.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A blessing service will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Father John Petrarulo will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
