Jeanne G. Yates, age 93, formerly of Meyer Avenue, passed away the afternoon of November 3, 2017 at Jameson Care Center in New Castle.
Born May 17, 1924, in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was the daughter of Ralph Emerson Boote and Grace Burnam Boote.
She was preceded in death of May 12, 1989 by her loving and devoted husband, Rev. Richard G. Yates, Sr., whom she married on January 1, 1946.
After serving as a USO hostess and a cadet nurse during World War II, she worked in several hospitals in Tennessee, New Jersey, Eastern PA, and Wheeling, WVA. Together with her husband Richard, they volunteered in missions to India. She became the Director of Medical Records with the Presbyterian SeniorCare in Washington, PA, retiring in 1992.
During her lifetime, Jeanne was active in various churches where she was Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher for all ages, youth advisor, director of vacation Bible school, and church secretary. She also served in the womens ministry, as a deacon, and director of the junior choir.
Jeanne became a charter member of the New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church in New Castle where she organized the church library and the womens mission circle. She enjoyed serving on the stewardship committee, being involved in the mission ministry and singing in the church choir.
Since coming to New Castle, she has been a volunteer for Contact Ears and the Jameson Junior Guild. She enjoyed growing flowers and listening to talking books and was diligent about mailing cards to people for all occasions.
She is survived by two sons, Richard G. Yates, Jr. with whom she made her home, and Rev. George R. Yates and his wife Jane, also of New Castle; two daughters and a son-in-law, Beverly and Don Wilkes of Chillicothe, OH and Donna Yates Kling of West Chester, PA; ten grandchildren, Natalie Yates, Rick Yates, Kristen Barber, Jesse Wilkes, Erik Wilkes, Joy Yates Wilson, Julia Yates Davis, Jonathan Yates, Gillian Kling and Alexander Kling; and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the New Covenant EP Church.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Chris Curtis and Jeremiah Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Claysville Cemetery in Claysville, PA.
