Jeffrey Byron Irwin, 69, of Poland, Ohio, died July 18, 2023, at Hospice of the Valley of Boardman.

Born April 3, 1954, in New Castle, he was the son of Harry Jr. and Josephine Proudfoot Irwin.

Jeff was a 1972 graduate of Shenango High School. He enrolled in broadcast school in Wilkinsburg, after which he spent his entire career in radio. He worked as a disc jockey and local sports announcer at radio stations in Sarasota, Florida; Sumter, South Carolina; Statesboro, Georgia; North Adams, Massachusetts; Newark, Ohio; and Perryton, Texas.

Mr. Irwin enjoyed reading, especially books about the Civil War. He participated in community theater, and during his time in Massachusetts he received the Williamstown Community Theatre Lifetime Achievement Award.

Jeff was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, and credited legendary Pirates announcer Bob Prince with sparking his interest to work in broadcasting.

He is survived by three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Dan and Sandy Irwin of South New Castle Borough, Mark and Melda Irwin of New Bedford, and Matthew "Chris" Irwin of Sharpsville; one sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Sam Robinson of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Sat. Aug. 12th from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A memorial service will take place immediately following visitation, at 11:00 AM, at the funeral home, with Pastor Forrest States officiating.
