Jennie E. Hughes, 104, former long time resident of New Castle, passed away the morning of May 28, 2014 at her home in Vero Beach, Florida.Jennie was a resident of New Castle for nearly one hundred years, until recently moving to Vero Beach in the last 4 years to be near her family.Born March 24, 1910 in Meadville, PA, she was a daughter of Harry K. and Hannah Knight Dickson.She was preceded in death on August 31, 1990 by her husband of 60 years, Daniel E. Hughes, whom she married June 26, 1930.She was a graduate of New Castle High School in 1928.Prior to her retirement with Doctors French and Wright as a medical secretary, she was employed in the medical records department of Jameson Memorial Hospital, and was a secretary with the New Castle Public Schools.She enjoyed participating in the activities of Challenges.Jennie was an active member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the Sparklers Bible study group, and member of the Ladies Class.She is survived by her two children, a daughter Ruth C. McNeish of Chattanooga, TN; and her son, Daniel E. Hughes, Jr. of Vero Beach; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Bell Evanoff, and recently her son, Robert D. Hughes, in March, 2014.Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014, from 10:00-12:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 12:00 noon at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev.
