Jerry Edward Sager, Sr., age 78, of Hickory Township, passed away the morning of June 2, 2016 at his son's home in New Castle, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 23, 1937 in New Castle, he was the son of Edward and Jessie Haybarger Sager. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen Kent Sager, whom he married on October 5, 1962. Jerry served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1954-1957. He was employed as a bricklayer with the Laborers Local Union for 50 years until his retirement. An avid sports fan of the Pittsburgh ball teams, he also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and especially time spent with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Joan Salomon and June Kerr of New Castle; five sons, Jerry E. Sager, Jr. of Cincinnati, OH, Wayne Sager, Anthony Sager, Luke Sager and Russell Sager all of New Castle; one brother, Raymond Sager of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Evelyn Hasson of New Castle and Linda Kendra of Virginia; 23 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Pauline Bernice Sager; two brothers, William and Edward Sager; and one sister, Jane Miller. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10-1 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Saturday at 1 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Marsha Parrish officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
