Obituary

Jesse 'Joe' Scott Heasley, age 89, of New Castle, passed away the morning of April 22, 2026, with family by his side.

Born March 6, 1937, in Crawford County, he was the son of the late William Paul and Jessie Bailey Heasley.

He was married to the love of his life, Patricia 'Patty' Jean (Drespling) Heasley, for 65 years. Mrs. Heasley preceded him in death on Feb. 14, 2023.

Joe was a 1955 graduate of New Castle High School. He was a proud member of the United States Army 101st Airborne Division, where he served as a paratrooper in Germany. For several years he worked as a switchman employed by Bell Telephone/Bell Atlantic, until his retirement in 1999.

Line dancing, woodworking and crafts were some of Joe's favorite hobbies. He was a member of the New Castle Credit Union and an active member of Croton United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School and was affectionately known as "Mr. Hoagie". Above everything else in life, Joe was a family man and cherished the times he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his two sons, Kevin (Deb) Heasley of South Beloit, IL, and Jeffrey (Leeann) Heasley of New Castle, PA; one brother Daniel (Beverly) Heasley of New Castle, PA; one sister, Gretchen Eppinger of New Castle, PA; seven grandchildren, Michaelynn (Glen) Williams of Suffolk, VA, Stevilynn (Adam) Gwin of New Castle, Devan Heasley of Washington, PA, Trista Heasley of IL, Jocelyn Heasley of New Castle, Taylor (Michael) Manos of New Castle, PA, and Jaycob Heasley of New Castle; six great-grandchildren Jaxon, Ellie, Sadie, Harper, Grayson, and Archer; and numerous other loved ones.

In addition to his parents and wife, Joe was preceded in death by son, Scott Heasley, daughter-in-law Lisa Heasley, sister Becky Post and brother-in-law Whitey Post.

Visitation will be held on Sunday April 26th from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, with the New Castle Area Honor Guard performing Military Rites immediately following visitation, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. There will also be visitation on Monday April 27th from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, immediately following visitation, at 11:00 AM.

Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery alongside his wife.
