Joan S. McConnell, 84, of Neshannock Township passed away the morning of July 25, 2012 at her residence.Born Jan. 15, 1928 in Struthers, OH, she was the daughter of Michael and Olga Kiddon Savonik. Joan married Fred N. McConnell on Aug. 16, 1947 and they were married for almost 65 years.She graduated from Ellwood City High School. Joan was a homemaker and mother, and after raising her children she worked in the Alumni Office at Westminster College. Joan enjoyed being involved in Christian Education with Junior High youth. A member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, she had previously belonged to Third Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School and worked with the Junior High Youth Group. She was involved in Christian Education at both Northminster and Third.In addition to her husband, Fred, Joan is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Larry Smith of Columbus, OH; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael N. and Alice McConnell of Birmingham, AL and Mark D. and Gerry McConnell of Twinsburg, OH; and three grandchildren, Michael P. McConnell and his wife Jessica, Megan McConnell and Kevin McConnell.She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Walter Savonik.Visitation will be Sunday, July 29, 2012, from 2-6 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012, at the funeral home. The Rev. Matthew Bupp will officiate. Burial will be at Castle View Gardens.Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
