Joan D. Rung-Richards, age 86, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of June 13, 2024, at Clen-Moore Place.

Born Aug. 19, 1937, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Lillian (Crouch) Rung.

She was married to her beloved husband, William T. Richards, for 67 years, until his passing on Oct. 21, 2023.

Joan was a Christian belonging to the First Presbyterian Church of N.C., where she served as a Deacon several times throughout her life. She was a member and past president of Easter Seals Auxiliary. She worked at Bell Telephone Company before becoming a homemaker. Joan belonged to several bowling leagues and to Sylvan Heights Ladies Golf League.

What Joan loved most of all was spending time with her family, golfing, and shopping. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to their home in Kissimmee, Florida, that they shared for 20 plus years.

Joan leaves behind three children; Jeffrey D. Richards (Chris), Susan L. Otlowski, and Jacqueline D. Manolis (Nick); five grandchildren, Craig Richards (Miguel), Autumn Richards, Taylor Ross (Sean), Maddison Azevedo (Conor), and Julia Manolis; and sisters, Roberta J. Morris of Fombell, PA and Vicki L. Coan of Costa Rica.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by her brother John 'Butch' Rung and brother-in-law, Dennis Morris.

Services will be held at a later date.
