Joann Bender, 85, of New Castle, passed away the morning of June 2, 2018 at her residence. Born March 8, 1933 in Wilkinsburg, PA, she was the daughter of Margaret Peg (Hutton) Doe. She was preceded in death on November 7, 1995 by her husband of 17 years, David E. Bender, whom she married June 17, 1978. A New Castle High School graduate, Joann was employed as a bookkeeper for Chambers Motors and Mangiarelli Motors for 15 years until her retirement in 1978. Joann was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She looked forward to her weekly shopping sprees with her twin sister Ann, and appreciated good food. Everyone who knew her knew of her strong faith in her Lord. She is survived by two daughters, Cherilee Sherry Cubellis of New Castle and Mickey (Jim) Bledsoe of Manassas, VA; a twin sister, Ann Campbell of New Castle; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. In addition to her mother and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann (Reed) Jones; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Bernie Campbell. In keeping with Joanns wishes, there will be no calling hours. A private service will be held for the family. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
