Joanne R. McCoy passed away on April 11, 2010 in Augusta, GA after a three month illness.Joanne was born on March 1, 1926 in Strausburg, OH, to the late William and Virneda Norman.She married the late Wallace McCoy in 1950 and lived in West Pittsburg over 63 years before moving to New Castle in 2001. Mrs. McCoy graduated from New Castle High School in 1944, was a graduate of Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 and finished her education with a BS in nursing from Youngstown State University in 1975. Joanne loved nursing and worked many years at Jameson Hospital and finished her last 18 years as the head nurse of the pediatric unit. She enjoyed traveling, painting, reading, swimming, playing games and spending time with family and friends. Joanne was a lifetime member of the West Pittsburg United Methodist Church and Senior Citizens of West Pittsburg. Mrs. McCoy loved her many friends and neighbors, old and new, and her YMCA water exercise group, her Domino's group, her nursing alumni, and the Red Hats. Mrs. McCoy would probably be best remembered for her strong determination to stay independent despite her 20 year history of multiple sclerosis.Mrs. McCoy is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Bobbi Jo McCoy of New Middleton, OH; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Thomas Mell of Augusta, GA and Jayne and Jeffery Kulp of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and one grandson, Matthew McCoy of New Middletown, OH.She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 15, 2010, from 5-8 p.m. and Friday, April 16, 2010, from 10-11 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd.Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Rex Wasser will officiate. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery.In Lieu of flowers, her family requests donations to be made to the West Pittsburg United Methodist Church, 8th St., PO Box 143, West Pittsburg, PA 16160.
