Johann Paal, 79, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of February 24, 2012 at Jameson Memorial Hospital.Johann was born on May 15, 1932 to the late Georg and Rosina Gierling Paal in Kreisch, Siebenbuergen. He married his wife, Elisabeth Paal, on May 1, 1960. Mr. Paal worked as a fitter for Harbor Steel, as a burner for Pennsylvania Engineering, and retired as a cabinet maker from St. Francis Hospital. Johann served for three years in the military in Siebenbuergen. He loved singing with the Eintracht Maennerchor, was president of the Siebenbuerger Sachsen Saengerbund, enjoyed bee keeping, wood working and dancing. Mr. Paal was a member and former trustee of the Christ Lutheran Church.Johann is survived by his wife, Elisabeth; one daughter and son-in-law, Anneliese and Stephen Schneider of Beaver Falls; and one son and daughter-in-law, Hans-Werner and Cindy Paal of Cranberry Twp., PA.He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Georg Paal; and three sisters: Elisabeth Both, and Rosina and Anna Gierling.Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2012, from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 1302 E. Washington St., New Castle, PA 16101. The Rev. Sean Walters will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
