John W. August, 76, of New Castle passed away December 13, 2017 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born December 17, 1940 in Birchton, West Virginia, he was the son of Willy and Irene Adkins August. He married Bonny Reynolds August on June 15, 1974 whom survives. He was a member of Stickney Community Church in West Virginia. He graduated from Marsh Fork High School. John had a love for cooking and enjoyed watching football and boxing. Along with his wife Bonny, John is survived by two sons, John (Allison) August II of Florida and Richard Slagle of New Castle; two brothers, Ray (Barbara) August of Brunswick, Ohio and Gary August of Charleston, West Virginia; and one sister, Sandy (Enoch) Hamilton of Ravenswood, West Virginia. He was preceded by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429Wilmington Rd. A funeral service will immediately follow visitation at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
