John W. Axe, 82, of Princeton, passed away the afternoon of August 31, 2018 in New Castle.
Born July 20, 1936 in New Castle, he was the son of John W. and Sophie (Temenski) Axe.
He was preceded in death on May 5, 2014 by his wife of 58 years, Janet C. (Ruby) Axe, whom he married on February 4, 1956.
Prior to owning and operating his own trucking company, John was employed at the Crane Company.
John enjoyed stock car racing and was an area top driver. He won the inaugural race in the stock car division at both Lernerville Speedway and Hickory Speedway. In addition to racing, John also enjoyed hunting, fishing and travel, but his love for his family always came first.
He attended Independent Methodist Church in New Castle.
He is survived by one daughter, Kathy and Carl Rogers of Winter Haven, Florida; one son, John and Beth Axe of New Castle; one brother, Robert and Betty Axe of Harlansburg; two grandchildren, Stacy (Will) McConahy and Jessica (Larry) Pasquarello; and three great-grandchildren, Shayna Rogers, Zachary McConahy and Carson McConahy.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Janet May Axe and a brother, Richard Axe.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Frederick H. Gilbert officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
