John W. Buchanan, Jr., age 81, formerly of Wampum, passed away the morning of May 4, 2024, at Avalon Place in New Castle.

Born November 25, 1942, in New Castle, he was the son of John Wilbur Buchanan, Sr. and June Agnes (Evans) Buchanan. He was preceded in death on April 26, 2018, by his wife of 54 years, Kathleen Ann (Macri) Buchanan, whom he married June 22, 1963.

John attended Shenango High School and spent over 47 years working at Universal Rundle.

For several years, John enjoyed playing softball and later coaching softball as well. Among his many interests, he loved bowling and fishing. John attended First Baptist Church.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to "his girls" who cared for him so graciously at the Avalon.

John is survived by one daughter, Cyndie (Russell) Hogue of Wampum; one son, John (Scott) Buchanan, III of Sharpsville; a brother-in-law, Robert Miller of New Wilmington; a sister-in-law, Barbara (Richard) Morgan of New Castle; one granddaughter, Bethanie Smith; two great-grandchildren, Gianna Smith and Jemma Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, William (Doris) Buchanan and Thomas (Sally) Buchanan, Sr.; one sister, Margaret Miller and sister-in-law, Mary Hromyak.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 8, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation Wednesday at 4:00 with the Rev. John McCready officiating.

John will be laid to rest beside his wife in Castle View Cemetery.
