John B. Buckner, Sr., 86, lifelong resident of New Castle, passed away the morning of June 20, 2025, at his residence in Neshannock Township.

Born November 19, 1938, he was the son of James H. and Lillian (Andrews) Buckner.

He was preceded in death on Feb. 28, 2019, by his wife of 58 years, Barbara (Seltzer) Buckner, whom he married June 19, 1960.

John was a 1956 graduate of New Castle High School "Chicks of 56" and served his country in the U.S. Army. He was active with Masonic organizations including the Tall Cedars, Consistory, and other Masonic Orders. He was also past master of his Masonic Lodge.

John was both a private and commercial pilot and enjoyed car restoration. He often said life was his hobby and deemed himself the family cohesion specialist. Prior to his membership at Grace Methodist Church, he attended Epworth Methodist Church.

He is survived by two sons, John B. (Bethany) Buckner and Carter Andrews (Joy) Buckner, both of New Castle; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Thomas J. Buckner, and two brothers, William J. Buckner and Frank A. Buckner.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.

A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 6:00.

He will be laid to rest in Graceland Cemetery.
