Obituary

John P. Casalandra, 74, of 47 Princeton Avenue, Hubbard, Ohio, passed away the morning of March 26, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born August 30, 1941 in New Castle, he was a son of Nicholas and Carolyn Micco Casalandra. Surviving at home is his wife of 52 years, Catherine Zduniak Casalandra, whom he married October 12, 1963. After graduating from New Castle High School, John attended Penn State University and also served two years in the Army. Working in engineering for over 20 years, he was the co-owner of Casalandra Ornamental Iron Company alongside his brother Bob. One of John's favorite pastimes was going to casinos with his wife Cathy. He most enjoyed being with his family, especially being together on the holidays, and treasuring all his grandchildren. John's other interests were cooking, golfing, and yard work. He was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Hubbard, Ohio. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Marianne (Brian) Costick of New Castle, and Nadine Shearer (companion Phillip Femoyer) of Hubbard, Ohio; two sons, Nicholas Casalandra of Hubbard and Justin (Rochelle) Casalandra of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; one brother, Lewis A. (Judy) Casalandra of Knoxville, TN; 10 grandchildren, Angela Tsangaris (fiancé Matthew Campbell), Christopher Tsangaris, Halle Casalandra, Megan Casalandra, Nicole Casalandra, Dominic Casalandra, Nicholas Casalandra, Noah Casalandra, Gabriel Casalandra and Cassidy Costick; and one great-grandchild, McKenzie Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Christian Casalandra; one brother, Robert Casalandra; and a son-in-law, Michael Shearer. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday for St. Camillus Church, W. Englewood Avenue, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Father Frank Almade will officiate. Burial will be in Parkside Cemetery.
