John J. Coleman, 97, of Neshannock Township, passed away the afternoon of September 19, 2017 at his residence. Born September 19, 1920 in Manhattan, New York, he was the son of Patrick and Margaret McQuade Coleman. He was preceded in death on April 19, 2016 by his loving wife of 68 years, Henrietta A. Kucharski Coleman, whom he married February 8, 1948. John was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School and attended CCNY. He was an army veteran of WWII, serving in General Pattons Third Army. John was an officer with the New York Police Department until his retirement when he became an investigator with Travelers Insurance Company. He was a member of several organizations including the Knights of Columbus, Rockland Company Shields, and the Holy Name Society. Among his many interests, he liked gardening (favorably vegetable gardening), reading, music, swimming, sports and playing cards, especially pinochle. What John enjoyed most was reciting poetry. The family would like to thank Dr. Sylvia Coleman, Johns daughter-in-law, for the tremendous care that was given to him over the years. He is survived by three daughters, Debra Coleman of Manhattan, NY, Victoria Accardo of Lake Hopatcong, NJ, and Nadine Kaiser of River Vale, NJ; two sons, John (Dr. Sylvia) Coleman, Jr. of New Castle and Patrick Coleman of Delaware; 10 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret, Winifred and Teresa. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 21, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Friday for Mary Mother of Hope Parish where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. The Rev.
