John L. Covert, Jr., 75, of Shenango Township, passed away the morning of September 12, 2018 at his residence. Born January 30, 1943 in New Castle, he was the son of John L. Covert, Sr. and Stella Cwynar Covert. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Shirley Frazer Covert, whom he married July 21, 1990. A graduate of Shenango High School, John was employed as a weld shop superintendent with Spectrum Mechanical Services. Among his many interests, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and restoring trucks. John attended New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church. In addition to this wife, he is survived by a son, John A. (Stephanie) Covert and two step-sons, Jeremy (Stacey) Green and Timothy (Kristin) Green all of New Castle; one sister, Kathleen (Howard) Newton of Culpeper, VA; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Diane Hillard Covert. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 15, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately after visitation Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev.
