John G."Jack" Davis, Jr., 93, of New Castle, passed away the night of July 8, 2010 at Jameson Hospital.Born January 11, 1917 in Farrell, PA, he was a son of John G. and Daisy Atkinson Davis. He married Kathryn J. McCullough on June 7, 1940. They recently celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary.He was a 1935 graduate of Sharon High School and then went on to Penn State University extension and Muncie School of Communication.Mr. Davis was the owner of Davis Contracting of New Castle where he retired in 1986. Prior, he was employed by the New Castle Redevelopment Authority, the United Engineering Foundry and National Steel Casting in Sharon where he was a foreman. He was a member of the Syria Shrine, Mahoning Lodge #243, 33rd Degree Mason and was a life member of New Castle Consistory. For many years he was an avid golfer and bowler.He was of the Presbyterian faith since 1933 and a member of Northminster Church where he sang in the choir since 1971. He also was a past elder and past president of the Over Fifty Fivers. From 1950-1971 he sang in the choir at Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church and from 1933-1950 sang with the First Presbyterian Church in Sharon.In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law; Jacquelyn and James Clonch of Plain City, Ohio and Nancy Hudson of New Castle; five grandchildren, James B. Morris, Jr., Marda Parish, John Hudson, Matthew Hudson and David Ewing; and nine great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Carla Jean Morris and Sylvia Davis; one son, John G. Davis, III; three sisters, Jenny, Emma and Myrtle; and one brother, Arthur.Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 11, 2010, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will take place on Monday, July 12, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Northminster Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Andrew Jillson will officiate.
