John C. Dinsmore, 74, of 205 S. Crawford Ave., passed away the night of Jan 12, 2010 in Allegheny General Hospital.Born June 19, 1935, in New Castle, he was the son of John A. and Edna M. Guyton Dinsmore.He married Shirley I. Bessell Jan. 6, 1964. She survives in New Castle.John attended New Castle High School and New Castle School of Trades.He served in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict as a private first class.John was employed by Sharon Steel Corp. as an electrician for 37 years in the blooming mill. He was also the safety and grievance man, and the vice president of the union. He later worked for Trinity Industries in Greenville for six years.He was a member of the Eagles Club, Moose Club, CG Club, and Union #1197. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Pittsburgh Steelers.John attended First Presbyterian Church and was affiliated with Savannah Methodist Church.In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Colleen Dinsmore of New Castle; a half brother, Bill Dinsmore of St. Augustine, Fla.; a brother-in-law, David Bessell of New Castle; a sister-in-law and her husband, Beverly and Jim Gettings; cousins, Mike and Anita Guyton, Marvin and Joan Dinsmore, Patti Stark and Marilyn Stahle who resides in France; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frances and Alvi Bessell; two brothers-in-law, Ronald Bessell and Thomas Bessell; and a sister-in-law, Carol Bessell.Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at the funeral home. The Rev. Frederick Gilbert will officiate.Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.Online condolences may be posted below.
