John "Scott" McGary, 69, of New Castle passed away peacefully at his home on the evening of Nov. 19, 2020. Scott was born in New Castle on June 4, 1951, to the late John Samuel and Thelma (Weiss) McGary. He attended and graduated from New Castle High School. Upon graduation, he went to Youngstown State University for one year before enlisting in the United States Army. Scott served in the Army from 1972 to 1974, In that time, he earned the rank of Private First Class and he was awarded the national defense service medal. Upon discharge from the Army, Scott worked as a machine 0perator at Rockwell Axle Plant for 24 years. Scott was a laid-back, cheerful and funny guy. He had many friends. He always had a way to make people laugh and smile. Scott enjoyed watching sports, soccer being his favorite, reading the newspaper, Sudoku puzzles, listening to music, sports trivia, smoking cigars, hanging out with friends and family at his house and enjoying life. He was also a big fan of the Las Vegas Raiders, Cincinnati Reds, Notre Dame, Army and the German national soccer team. Scott is survived by his nephew, Justin McGary (Xenia) and family of Round Rock, Texas; his uncle, Joe McGary of Rockford Illinois; his sister-in-law, Karen McGary of Clemmons, North Carolina; his nieces, Kelly McGary Cochan of Southington, Connecticut, and Colleen McGary of Chicag; close friends, Jim Jolly, Timothy (Dudley) George, Rick Reiber, Tom Elliott and Debbie Conlee; as well as neighbors, Reynold and Patti LeBoeuf and John and Pam Docherty. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma McGary; brothers, Frederick and Tracy McGary; niece, Sharon McGary; cousin, Gary Tanner; and aunt Barbara "Babs" and Chuck Tanner. Arrangements will be made by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. Per Scott's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Scott will be laid to rest with his family at Castle View Memorial Gardens in New Castle. A special thanks goes out to Hospice Care and caregivers Debbie, Crystal, Beverly, Amy, Jane and others who helped take care and look after Scott. GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!
