John Evangelos Mitsos, 86, of New Castle, unexpectedly passed away Saturday, August 30th in Athens, Greece.Born on April 20th, 1928 in Agalianos, Greece, John immigrated to New Castle, PA in 1956 where he made his home for 58 years. He was a shareholder of M&P Coney Island and manager of the downtown restaurant where he was a familiar face and friend to many.John was a devoted member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church and past president of the Parish Council.John was preceded in death by his parents, Evangelos and Georgia Mitsos, and a sister, Yanoula Kartsakalis.Surviving are his beloved wife of 60 years, Virginia Mitsos; a daughter, Presbytera Georgia (Fr. Anastastios) Pourakis; two sons, Dr. Angelo (Mary) Mitsos and Dr. William (Marcia) Mitsos; and a sister, Penny Moutopoulos. Cherished grandfather to Dr. George (Karla), Virginia and John Pourakis; John, Dino (Nicole) and Emmanuel Mitsos; Yana Mitsos; and one great grandson, Anastasios Pourakis.Visitation will be held Friday, September 5, 2014, from 4-8 p.m., with a Trisagion service at 7 p.m., and Saturday, September 6, 2014, from 10-11 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 315 W. Englewood Avenue, New Castle, PA 16105.A funeral service will immediately follow visitation Saturday, September 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. George and will be officiated by Rev. Fr. Photios Tomarakos.Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church of New Castle, 315 W.
