John R. Nagel, age 98, formerly of Ellwood City, passed away the evening of Dec. 3, 2020 at the Haven Convalescent Nursing Home, in New Castle. Born April 7, 1922, in Energy, PA, he was the son of Walter Howard and Minnie Lois (Challis) Nagel. On May 14, 1942, he married his beloved wife of 78 years, Marjorie Helen (Amos) Nagel. She preceded him in death on August 11, 2020. John was a 1940 graduate of Shenango High School. For several years he was employed by Aetna Standard/Blaw Knox as an industrial engineer. Mr. Nagel was a member of Ellwood -Parian F & AM for over 73 years, the Masonic Lodge #599, Valley of New Castle Consistory and Kiwanis Club in Ellwood City. John was an accomplished musician. He played cornet for special church occasions. Mr. Nagel was a former member of Third Presbyterian Church and more recently, Bell Memorial Presbyterian Church singing in both choirs and the Valley of New Castle Consistory Choir. Most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent with family. The family would like to thank the staff at the Haven Convalescent Nursing Home for the love and care that was given to John. He is survived by a daughter, Janice E. (Jerry) Wilbeck of Rockwell, TX; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Pearl) Wilbeck of Rockwall, TX, Jon Wilbeck of Lindale, TX, Cindy Nagel of Portersville, and Jim Nagel of Mercer, PA; 4 step-grandchildren, Virginia Patterson (Jim) of New Galilee, PA, Tina Forkner (Mitch) of Osceola, IN, Paul Johnson (Judy) of Ellwood City, PA, Kirsten Johnson (Dev) of Hermitage, PA and five great-grandchildren, Kylan Brooke Wilbeck, Kristen Paige Russell, Christa Jo Nagel, Tyler Nagel and Ryan Nagel. In addition to his parents and wife, John is preceded in death by a son Howard "Dutch" Nagel and two brothers, Mervin, and William Nagel. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be at Harmony Baptist Cemetery, alongside his wife. Memorial contributions may be offered to the City Rescue Mission, 319 S.
