John W. Sant, 94, of New Castle, passed away the morning of October 27, 2014 at his residence. Born July 24, 1920 in Sharon, PA, he was a son of Richard C. and Helen Boyd Sant. John was preceded in death on March 1, 2001 by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth Patterson Sant, whom he married December 21, 1942. Mr. Sant attended the East Liverpool Ohio High School, the Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ, Dartmouth College, and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, graduating in December 1942. He served three years as an officer in the U.S. Navy during WWII with duty on Inshore Patrol, Service Squadron 10, and the USS South Dakota. Mr. Sant was President and C.E.O. of Universal Rundle Corp. from 1962 to 1984; President and C.E.O. of First Western Bank Corp. from 1984 to 1990; and partner in Unitas Industries from 1990 to 2000. John served on a variety of board of directors during his lifetime including Universal Rundle Corp; First Western Bank Corp; Venceramica of Caracas, Venezuela; the Ven Am Bank of NYC; the Dohl Corp. of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Westminster College; the Hoyt Foundation; and was Chairman of the Board of Jameson Memorial Hospital from 1978 to 1990. John did not neglect the fun side of life and was an ardent golfer, skier, hot air ballonist, sailor and horseman. Survivors include one son, John W. (Marilyn) Sant, Jr.; two daughters, Elizabeth B. Sant and Catherine S. Root; 8 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. In the later days of his life following his wife's death, he was blessed with the companionship of Jeanne C. McBride, who preceded him in death on November 15, 2010. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A graveside service will take place on Thursday, October 30, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverview Cemetery, 2026 St. Clair Avenue, East Liverpool, Ohio. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation.
