Obituary

John W. "Jack" Snyder, 78, of Shenango Township, passed away the morning of May 10, 2019 at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House in Poland, Ohio. Born February 13, 1941 in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Woodrow W. Snyder and Sara E. (Clever) Snyder Gerhard. He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Judy A. (Moore) Snyder, whom he married May 20, 1963. "Duke" as he was affectionately known to others, was a 1959 graduate of New Castle High School. He gained employment with United Parcel Service in 1965 and after 30 years, retired on March 4, 1995. During that time he earned the first Honor Certificate for Safe Driving. After retirement, Jack was a starter at Castle Hills Golf Course and a driver and delivery man for Butz Florist. Jack was an avid golfer, enjoying memberships in golf leagues at both Castle Hills and Sylvan Heights Golf Course. He also loved following the Neshannock Lancers and Duquesne University football. He was a member of the Teamsters Local #261 and of the Independent Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Tracey Penwell and Terri (Guy) Natale, all of New Castle; four sisters, Marlene (Ed) Smith, Eleanor (Jim) Womer, Darlene (Wayne) Guthrie and Katherine Snyder (Roger) Eddy, all of New Castle; and four grandchildren, Ryan Penwell, Brenna Penwell, Matthew Natale and Michael Natale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Joanne Cercone and his loving uncle and aunt, John and Shirley Clever. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mashburn and the staff of Hospice House for their care and compassion for Jack. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, from 4:00-7:00p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 7p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Frederick H. Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
