John H. Thompson, 93, of Neshannock Township, most recently a resident of Golden Hill Nursing Home, passed away the afternoon of May 24, 2019 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born July 12, 1925 in New Castle, he was the son of Martin (Tomczyk) Thompson and Josephine (Walczak) Thompson. A WWII Veteran, John served his country in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman 1st Class. He was deployed to the North Atlantic in support of the Normandy Invasion, to the Mediterranean and later to the Pacific Theater. After his military service, he embarked on a career in sales with Bruce Electric Supply and later as a long-time manufacturer's representative for Eagle Electric Manufacturing Company. Upon his retirement from Eagle Electric, he continued working in sales for Desco Supply Co. In earlier years, John was an assistant Scout Master with Troop 43. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing, and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and his favorite golfers, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. John was preceded in death on June 3, 2016 by his beloved wife, Virginia C. (Flaugher) Thompson. He is survived by his daughter, Pam Thompson Bossio and her husband Sam of Morgantown, West Virginia; his son, David Thompson and wife Cynthia of Overland Park, Kansas; one sister, Rose Marie Presnar of New Castle; four grandchildren, Brian D. Thompson, Travis D. Thompson, Laura C. Howe and John L. Bossio; and four great-grandchildren, Gigi Howe, Kendall Howe, Mason Bossio and Parker Bossio. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Marion Tomczyk and a sister, Delores Bruno. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 31, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle followed by a brief service. John will be laid to rest beside his wife Virginia at Graceland Cemetery.
