John R. Wright, 100, of Carriage Court, 3102 Ellwood Road, formerly of Court Street, passed away the morning of May 14, 2012 at Jameson Hospital.Born November 27, 1911, in Harlansburg, he was a son of James and Mabel Eppinger Wright. He married the former Virginia J. McCracken on August 10, 1933. She preceded him in death March 1, 2004.John was employed for 40 years with the A & P Super Market as a meat cutter and meat department manager.After his retirement, he continued to work for Rocky's Market in Union Township and Giant Eagle in Lawrence Village Plaza, until the age of 85.He enjoyed bowling, taking care of his pets and feeding the birds.John is survived by three daughters, Shirley Salomon of New Castle, Minnie Price of San Bernardino, Calif, and Beverly Rzicznek of New Wilmington; one son, Jack Wright of New Castle; one brother, Ronald Wright of New Castle; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dale, Raymond and William Wright; and one sister, Velma McMillen.Visitation will be held on Monday, May 21, 2012, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Chad Stoecker of First Assembly of God will officiate.Burial will be in Fair Oaks Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the City Rescue Mission, 319 S. Croton Avenue, New Castle, PA 16101.
