Obituary

Joseph W. Jameson, 81, New Castle, passed away the morning of June 29, 2010 at the Hospice of the Valley Hospice House.Joseph was born November 6, 1928 in New Castle to the late James B. and Mary Robinson Jameson.He married the former Shirley I. Gwin on July 5, 1951. She passed away on August 4, 2005.Upon graduating from Mt. Jackson High School in 1947, Joseph received a bachelor's degree from Slippery Rock University and a master's degree from Westminster College. Joseph was a member of the United States Army where he served stateside during the Korean War.He was employed at Union Area School District as an elementary teacher, Gateway School District in Monroeville as a guidance counselor and the Neshannock School District as an elementary teacher and principal. Joseph was also co-owner of Jameson's Candy.He was a member of the City Rescue Mission Board as well as the Tourist Promotion Agency.A member of the New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Joseph served as an elder and was a Sunday school teacher.Joseph is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Audrey and Bob Himebaugh of Brookfield, CT, Betty and Randy Polen of New Castle; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Dennis and Kacelyn Jameson of New Castle, Bruce and Traci of Kennett Square, PA; one brother, David B. Jameson of Lancaster, PA and four grandchildren, Kylie and Louie D'Arcangelo, Tyler Himebaugh, Ally Jameson and Adam Jameson.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine Hallman, Margaret Bowden, Virginia Kauffman and six brothers, Les, Ted, Bob, Jack, Milton and Carl Jameson.Visitation will be 4 to 8 Thursday, July 1, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road.A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2010, at the funeral home. The Rev. George Yates and Rev. Chris Curtis of New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church will officiate.Memorial contributions may be sent to New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1911 Harlansburg Road, New Castle 16101.
