Obituary

Joseph A. Lawlor, 86, of New Castle, passed away the morning of April 30, 2018 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Joseph was born on September 6, 1931, in Youngstown, to the late E. Leslie and Mary Francis Diebel Lawlor. He married Matilda M. Lawlor on October 9, 1954. She precedes him in passing. Mr. Lawlor was the owner and operator of Rohrer's Gun Store. He was a graduate of Ursaline High School, in Youngstown and served his country during the Korean War as a proud and faithful member of the U.S. Marine Corp. Joseph belonged to The Marine Corp. League, the Mahoning County Duck Hunters Club, the Eagles Club, the American Legion and the VFW. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, cabinet making and raising Arabian horses. Mr. Lawlor was of the Catholic faith and served as an altar boy, in his youth, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Boardman, OH. Joseph is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Patrick DeVito of Austintown, OH, Mary Ann Lordi of Medina, OH, Joan and Rodney Edquist of Arvada, CO; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Mary Lawlor of New Castle, Joseph and Aimee Lawlor of Medina, OH; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and loving companion, Doreen McCormick. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in passing by his two sisters, Theresa Medicus and Jean Lawlor. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church. Procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 AM. Memorial Contributions can be sent, in Joseph's honor, to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
