Joseph Micco, 84, of Shenango Road, passed away the afternoon of May 17, 2011, at Jameson Hospital.Born August 10, 1926, in New Castle, he was a son of Guiseppe and Nellie Conti Micco. He married Dorothy J. Barge. She preceded him in death on September 9, 1992. Joe served in the U.S. Navy from January 1944 to May 1946. He was a Third Class Machinist Mate. He served during World War II, South Pacific Theatre, and the liberation of the Philippine Islands. Joe worked for the U.S. Postal Service in maintenance for 23 years until his retirement in 1988. Prior to working for the post office, he worked for Barge Construction. He was a member of the Eagles Club for 60 years. He also was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Joe took great pleasure in coaching little league baseball for 10 years and helping coach Legion baseball. He enjoyed walking, fishing, gardening, and taking care of his yard. He was a member of St. Camillus Church.Joe is survived by two daughters, Nancy Kikta, and husband, Jerry, of Boardman,OH, and Linda Napadano, and husband, David, of Philadelphia, PA; a son, Joseph Micco, and wife, Carol, of Brookfield,OH; two brothers, Carmen Micco and Patsy Micco, both of New Castle; three sisters, Nancy Clause, Madeline Passerella, and Dolores Monstwil, all of New Castle; six grandchildren, Michelle Deiley, Kristin Wallace, David Napadano, Joseph Micco, Matt Saylor, and Stephanie Hall; three great-grandchildren, Jimmy Deiley, Nicole Deiley, and Nicholas Napadano; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Anthony, Dominic and Alexander Micco; and a sister, Carmella Pallarino.Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A processional will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Camillus Church. The Rev. Father Thomas Lewandowski will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Full military rites will be offered by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
