Josephine Louise Irwin, 84, of Shenango Township went to be with her Lord and Savior the morning of Dec. 3, 2016, at her residence.
Born June 2, 1932, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Byron K. and Martha Arkwright Proudfoot.
She married Harry C. Irwin Jr. on Aug. 27, 1952. They spent nearly 61 years together prior to his death on July 23, 2013.
Mrs. Irwin was a graduate of Union High School and Jameson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She retired after 40-plus years as an operating room nurse at Jameson Hospital.
She belonged to Calvary Independent Church.
She enjoyed reading, watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football and especially spending time with her family. She was known for always putting others before herself.
Mrs. Irwin is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Jeff Irwin of New Castle, Dan and Sandy Irwin of New Castle, Mark and Melda Irwin of New Bedford and Matthew "Chris" Irwin of Sharpsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Sam Robinson of Edinburg; three brothers, John Proudfoot of Ohio, Ted Proudfoot of Arizona and Tom Proudfoot of Georgia; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Quentin Eugene Proudfoot and Edward Proudfoot.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service wll take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Chuck Fombelle of Calvary Independent Church and the Rev. John Yergan of First Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
