Josephine Marion McFarland, 86, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of June 3, 2021 at Jameson Care Center. Born June 6, 1934 in Vernon, Texas, she was the daughter of Joseph Macklin Gillum and Elsie Laverne (Fletcher) Gillum. Josephine was employed as a clerk with the former Dairy Mart and also a waitress at the Fountain Restaurant in downtown New Castle. Among her varied interests, she enjoyed selling items on Ebay. She was a Sunday school teacher at Evangel Community Church and also attended New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Josephine is survived by three sons, Jack Edward (Deborah) Stephens of Groveport, Ohio, Carl Wayne McFarland and Milton Lloyd McFarland both of New Castle; one brother, Joe Gillum of Modesto, CA; an ex-daughter-in-law, Yolanda Verclu; four grandchildren, Jessica (Billy) Stephens-Jones of Seneca, SC; Rebekah (Andrew) Olimpi of Dacula, GA, Benjamin (Brenda) Stephens of Hilliard, OH, and Tabitha Carey of Snellville, GA; and two great-grandchildren, Ranson Olimpi and Rowen Stephens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Carl McFarland; two sisters, Elsie Cora Medford and Loretta Yvonne Gillum; and one brother, Delbert Ray Gillum. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 7, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 3:00 at the funeral home with Pastor Chris Curtis officiating. Burial will be in Unity Baptist Cemetery.
