Karen M. Carenbauer, age 82, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of November 16, 2023, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Born October 4, 1941, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Alfred and Ethel L. (Houk) Mann.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, George Carenbauer, whom she married May 16, 1964.
After her graduation from Shenango High School in 1959, Karen attended Slippery Rock College for her bachelor's degree in education.
She gained employment with the New Castle School District where she worked most of her life until teaching at the New Castle Christian Academy until her retirement.
Karen was a member of PEO, the Philanthropic Educational Organization, Chapter A. She enjoyed travel and playing games with her family, but her greatest joy in life was time spent with her family and friends.
A member of Savannah United Methodist Church, she was active in the church choir, the Over 55 Group and United Methodist Women.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Dana (Rhett) Keffer of Grove City and Dawn (Lee) Harris of Lowellville, Ohio; one son, Todd (Anne) Carenbauer of Sharon, PA; one sister, Barbara Galida of New Castle; seven grandchildren, Rhett (Brittany) Keffer, Jr., Ross Keffer (fiancé Lauren Dietz), Ashley (Jacob) Kavanagh, Jacob Carenbauer, Riley (Alexus) Keffer, Ethan Harris and Brandon Harris; and one great grandson, Reed Keffer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Janet Perry.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 20, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, November 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Savannah United Methodist Church, 84 Savannah-Gardner Road, New Castle. Pastor Adam Goswick and Rev. Mark Goswick will officiate.
Burial will be in Slippery Rock Cemetery in Ellwood City, PA.
Memorial contributions may be offered to the New Castle Christian Academy, 1701 Albert Street, New Castle, PA 16105.
